About Schools Climate Kit

The Schools Climate Kit provides teachers with a comprehensive set of lesson plans around sustainability themes. There are curriculum-based lesson plans on Schools Clean Up Day for each State and Territory as well as a great range of creative learning activities and resource links.

Schools Clean Up Day

Participation in Schools Clean Up Day is a great way of introducing students to concepts in waste management and auditing, discussion of personal values and concepts of active citizenship. Our lesson plans on Schools Clean Up Day are based on State and Territory curricula so student participation can count towards learning outcomes.

Energy

These plans aim to bring the concept of global warming to life by helping students understand about energy use and energy conservation.

Waste

Based on a waste audit approach, these lesson plans introduce students to the 4 Rs of waste management: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.  Teachers can follow up on this lesson plan by using the Triple Bin Challenge to introduce an integrated waste management system into their school.

The waste section of the teaching material also contains lessons on the environmental issues associated with packaging and with consumption of batteries.

Students are introduced to the concept of environmental footprint. They are asked to consider their personal impact on the environment using transport as an example. Students are also asked to consider their contribution to environmental improvement.

Our activities on land impact upon the quality of our water. In these plans, students will develop their understanding of how human actions impact on marine ecosystems and come to an understanding that water is a valued resource.
