COUNCIL RESOURCE CENTRE

Why should your council get involved in Clean Up Australia Day?

Clean Up Australia Day is Australia's largest community based environmental event. It continues to grow from strength to strength because of the generous support of many individuals, businesses, community groups and councils throughout Australia.

The primary reason most councils get involved in Clean Up Australia Day is to engage the local community and create positive outcomes for the environment.

Supporting Clean Up Australia Day campaign can also benefit your council by:

  • Raising the Lord Mayor's/Mayor's profile through city/town wide media coverage in local print, television and media
  • Helping remove substantial amounts of rubbish from bushland areas and reserves not regularly serviced by Counicl Local Asset Services
  • Helping to identify problematic illegal dumping sites
  • Helping identify problematic areas
  • Supporting established council and community group links such as catchment groups
  • Conveying current council messages within Clean Up Australia media releases and materials
  • Improving the state of numberous iconic metropolitan parks, reserves and waterways
  • Recognition within the community that council is supportive of the nations's largest community based environmental event
