GREAT NORTHERN CLEAN UP 2010

Great Northern Clean Up 2010

The Great Northern Clean Up 2010 will take place over the weekend of 11 - 12 September.

The Great Northern Clean Up is fun, easy and everyone can get involved. Individuals, local groups, schools and businesses can either organise a Clean Up site or volunteer to join an existing site. The event provides an opportunity for the communities within the northern parts of Australia to participate in Clean Up Australia Day at a time more suitable to their climate.

Visit www.CleanUpAustraliaDay.org.au to register or volunteer at a Clean Up Site.

Background

The Great Northern Clean Up campaign was run as a pilot event for Clean Up Australia over the weekend of 3-4 October 2009. It is to be permanently etched into calendars in Northern Australia following the overwhelming success of the inaugural event. Close to 90 tonnes of rubbish was removed from beaches, waterways and local parks by the almost 2,00 volunteers at sites stretching right across the top end, from Townsville and Cairns right through to Darwin, Broome and Port Hedland.
