In 1996 Clean Up Australia worked with Taronga Zoo to open a waste water recycling plant at Taronga Zoo.
The recycled water is now used at the Zoo to hose the animal exhibit down, fills moats, flush urinals and irrigate gardens and lawns.

The many benefits of waste water recycling are demonstrated by the Plant at Taronga Zoo. For example, using recycled water reduces the discharge that would otherwise flow into Sydney Harbour.
