The winner of the local council award 2008 is Blacktown city council. The council will receive $5000 from Veolia Environment to be used specifically for a community based environment project. The council showed an outstanding effort during the campaign, some of the highlights were;
93 registered sites which were well spread out across the LGA
Provided excellent support to site coordinators; helping to identify sites and providing kits for those that registered late
A growth in campaign participation, in particular an increased number of schools
Extensive promotional activity; local ads, banners, media releases, mail outs, flyers and liaison with other community groups
Made themselves available for questions in the build up and also visited all sites on the day to provide additional assistance
Held a free BBQ for all volunteers
Arranged for the pickup of all rubbish on the day
The council planned to spend their winning grant on their Eco-Active schools program. This program provides funding to local schools to undertake environmental improvement projects, for example; installation of rainwater tanks, class vegetable gardens, energy and waste audits and regeneration of bushland.

The winner of the site coordinator 2008 competition is Louise Mitchell from Ningi in Queensland. She will be receiving a $2500 holiday voucher for a destination of her choice courtesy of Veolia environment.
