OUR ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Our Environment and Climate Change

Every person in the world has some impact on the environment. Individually we need to be aware of what can do to minimize our environmental footprint.

Through simple daily activities such as driving a car, leaving lights on, using computers, microwaves, heaters and so on, we all contribute to energy use. Using energy involves the burning of fossil fuels which subsequently produces greenhouse gases. Having an excess of greenhouse gases (more than what the earth requires) results in an enhanced Greenhouse Gas Effect which ultimately results in climate change.

Climate change could be detrimental to the planet's ecosystems. A further chain reaction of events can occur through global warming such as rising sea levels, glacier retreat, and altered patterns of agriculture.

Predictions for secondary and regional effects include extreme weather events, an expansion of tropical diseases, and drastic economic impact.

It is up to us to do our part by reducing the amount of energy we use and continually learn more about the environment and what we can do to preserve it.
