Plastic Bags in Schools

Teaching the youth of today is an important step in reducing the impacts of plastic bags in the future.

What can you do?
Teachers and kids all over Australia are invited to do some fun, practical activities at school to learn about plastic bags.

School Children - All Ages
Use Clean Up Australia's ‘Household Plastic Bag Survey' to work out how many plastic bags your family is using at home.

School Teachers

Teachers are encouraged to educate their class on the issues surrounding plastic bag use and how children can refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle plastic bags.

Simple activities:

  • Consider holding a Plastic Bag Free Day at school
  • Survey the amount of plastic litter in school during a clean up or by going through rubbish bins
  • Use plastic bags to create artworks
  • Run a competition for the best design of a plastic bag alternative such as a calico bag
  • Ask children to visualise the lifecycle of a plastic bag and draw it or write it down
