Australians have voted Clean Up Australia as the country’s most trusted environmental charity and Chairman Ian Kiernan AO as the fourth “most trustworthy” Australian.
Mr Kiernan said the trust Australians placed in Clean Up Australia reflected the ongoing relevance of Clean Up Australia’s work.
“I am flattered and honoured that Australians believe the work we do at Clean Up Australia remains of value and is relevant to their lives after 18 years.
“Clean Up is Australia is all about being practical, nothing too fancy. I think that reflects part of our national character.”
The 2007 Reader’s Digest Most Trusted Poll ranked Clean Up Australia at 25th among a prestigious group of trusted charities, well ahead of other environment organisations such as the Australian Conservation Foundation, Greenpeace and the World Wide Fund for Nature.
Mr Kiernan said the environment would remain top of mind for the majority of Australians for many years to come due to the threat posed by climate change.
“Australians know that climate change is already having an impact on their lives.
“They want practical information on the action they can take to reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions but they also want less hot air from politicians and better leadership.”
