Breaking through the final waste frontier and becoming a paperless office is the goal of iconic Australian community and environment organisation Clean Up Australia's (CUA) new website www.cleanup.com.au.
Designed and built by Profero, the new website allows many of CUA's functions and communications to be transferred online. Profero has worked with CUA for the last 2 years as its digital strategy and creative agency.
"Through the new website, we are not only digitising a number of our standard member communications, but also drastically improving the productivity of our staff, giving us more efficient use of our sponsors and donors funds," said Terrie-Ann Johnson, the Campaign Director of Clean Up Australia.
"CUA has developed a great partnership with Profero. They really understand our business and are constantly challenging us to use the digital space in ways that best suit our business and our philosophy."
The website extends CUA's involvement with environmental issues from the well known annual event, Clean Up Australia Day and better reflects the wide variety of ongoing activities and initiatives. The site is powered by an advanced content management system that gives CUA staff full control and flexibility of content and information architecture while maintaining the design integrity of the site.
The donations system and process has also been completely overhauled, enabling CUA to focus on signing up Supporters online for the first time.
"It's great to see a project like this making a real difference to the way an organisation achieves its goals", said Mike Zeederberg, the MD of Profero. "We've worked very closely with CUA all the way through this project, looking at internal workflow and member communications, and the result is a step-change in their approach to communications, rather than simply a new website"
CUA's new website is also unique as its Annual Report and Rubbish Report have been produced solely on a digital platform. The web has also been utilised to transform CUA's educational platform with publications such as "Kids Clean Up Kit", "Coastal Rubbish Report" and "Clean up the World's Member Kit" all moving online.
CUA founder and Chairman Ian Kiernan AO said the digital strategy has significantly reduced both the economic and environmental costs of communications while ensuring CUA reaches a far wider audience.
"Leading edge technology is helping us continue to make a difference to the environment and to ensure Clean Up Australia's message can reach more people and inspire them to act also."
Profero and Clean Up are currently finalising the next phase of the project, "Clean Up the World", which has further functionality including the ability for remote members operating around the globe to promote their activities via simple to use customisable mini-sites in three languages. It's like mySpace for the environmentally aware.
