About the Coffs Harbour Project

On the 11th of March 2005, Ian Kiernan, Chairman of Clean Up Australia, officially closed the Corrambina Point sewerage ocean outfall at Coffs Harbour, praising the Coffs Harbour City Council for implementing such an innovative sewerage strategy.

"This type of sewerage strategy is the way of the future and sets the benchmark for future projects," said Ian Kiernan.

"It has all the elements crucial to sustainable water management including wastewater being treated and reused as well as encouraging water conservation. "The use of reclaimed water is a vital contribution to conservation," he added.

Ian also spoke at the opening of the upgraded Woolgoolga Water Reclamation Plan and new Deep Sea Release pipeline. The pipeline will be used to transport excess wastewater during the wet season only, cutting the amount of wastewater entering the ocean near the unique Solitary Islands Marine Park.

"Water is our most precious natural resource. Any project that helps conserve water and clean up our oceans and seas has my support," Ian said.
