UNEP's Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA) Secretariat is a Clean Up the World member and is conducting its first Clean Up East Asian Seas Campaign in 2008. It will involve national and local participating organisations among the COBSEA member countries and intends to highlight the serious impacts of marine litter on the marine environment.
COBSEA is a Regional Seas Programme administered by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). COBSEA has ten member countries including Australia, Cambodia, the People's Republic of China, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.
Clean Up the World members can choose to register local cleanup activities as part of the Clean Up East Asian Seas Campaign 2008 and will be requested to report the results from their cleanup activities to COBSEA in order to further improve the knowledge about marine litter in our oceans.
