Join us to help butt out Australia’s litter problem!

When we think of plastic pollution we usually think of chip packets, drink bottles or straws, but cigarette butts are the most abundant plastic litter item in the world, with up to 8.9 billion butts dropped in Australia each year.

Participating in the Great Northern Clean Up means you can help us get these butts (and other litter!) out of the environment, before the wet season washes it into our waterways and out to sea.

Since 2009, The Great Northern Clean Up has provided communities north of the Tropic of Capricorn the flexibility to participate in local Clean Up events between August & October each year. Timing is critical - the aim is to make sure we get as much rubbish out of our precious environment before the onset of the monsoon and cyclone seasons.
