It’s easy to be a good egg this Easter

Planning to get stuck into some chocolate this Easter? Great news: Foil chocolate wrappers are 100% recyclable!

The foil wrapper from your chocolate eggs could become the aluminium in a new can of soft drink. That's right - aluminium foil can be recycled in your kerbside recycling bin – just make sure it’s all rolled together into a ball shape. This stops small pieces of foil getting lost in the recycling process.

Roll all those tiny bits together into a ball about as big as a tennis ball and pop it in your recycling bin.

If you haven’t managed to eat enough chocolate to make a fist-sized ball of foil (weird, we know but we've heard it can happen!), you can place the foil pieces into an aluminium drink can, to contain them before placing it in your recycling bin.

And our pro tip? With all your foil wrappers all scrunched up together, no one will ever know how much chocolate you’ve eaten!

Hot cross bun bags & soft plastic wrappers

Soft plastic packaging and bags can’t be recycled through most kerbside recycling services, but the general rule is, if it scrunches, then it can be recycled through REDcycle - simply gather together all your scrunchables and drop them into a collection bin at participating supermarkets. Just make sure your plastic is dry and as empty as possible.

Cardboard and hard plastic packaging

The cardboard boxes that package the eggs, along with any other boxes, can be placed in your kerbside bin for recycling. Collapsing the boxes first helps leave room in your bin for more recycling.
