Clean Up Australia Day Partners

Since the first clean up in 1989, McDonald's crew and managers have been joining local communities to help clean sites across the nation.

In addition to supporting Clean Up Australia Day, McDonald's has an environmental sustainability framework that aligns all initiatives with five major environmental themes

- in-restaurant operations
- corporate operations
- sustainable supply
- advocacy and partnerships and
- culture and communication

While each sustainability theme is equally important, a primary focus is in-restaurant operations. As the area in which McDonald's can make the most significant difference, McDonald's continually looks to improve key areas such as energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and waste generation.

Current initiatives include the conversion of used cooking oil to bio diesel - fueling delivery trucks to restaurants across Victoria, energy saving LED lighting as standard in all new restaurants and food waste collection programs where compost is converted to produce electricity in NSW. McDonald's also opened the first Green Star certified quick service restaurant in Australia in Kilsyth, Victoria.
